Medical Wizard Founded
Chandana and Duminda Weerakoon established Medical Wizard in Melbourne, developing a practice management system designed from the ground up for Australian healthcare professionals. What started as a technology solution quickly grew into something much broader.
Dedicated Billing Services Launched
Seeing firsthand the revenue challenges facing Australian physicians, MWBS expanded into dedicated medical billing services - combining deep technology expertise with hard-won healthcare industry knowledge to help practices recover more of what they were owed.
Global Operations Established
MWBS opened its Sri Lanka operations centre, enabling extended-hours processing and bringing on board a team of highly qualified billing professionals from diverse academic backgrounds in accounting, finance, healthcare, and technology.
Virtual Assistants and Admin Services Launched
Responding to the growing staffing pressures facing medical practices, MWBS expanded beyond billing into Virtual Medical Receptionists, Admin Assistants, and Bookkeepers - giving practices access to skilled, flexible support at a fraction of in-house costs.
Hospital Billing and Continued Growth
With a team of 60+ professionals and over 100 healthcare providers across Australia, MWBS added full hospital billing cycle management with an accredited Medicare PAS system - cementing our position as a complete practice management partner for both physician groups and hospital systems.

Chandana brings over 35 years of experience across technology and healthcare, and is the lead architect behind the Medical Wizard platform. His deep technical expertise and long-term vision have been the driving force behind MWBS’s growth from a Melbourne startup into one of Australia’s most trusted practice management partners. Chandana leads the technology direction and strategic development of the business.
